Head of Development Projects (Waste Treatment & Recycling)
Our client is one of the UK’s leading waste and resource management companies, with over 200 facilities and 4,500 employees across the UK.
As Head of Development, you will lead and be responsible for all aspects of Recycling & Waste Treatment business development activities. You will identify and develop growth opportunities, negotiate new service contracts, support strategic acquisitions, and play a key role in shaping and delivering the company’s waste management strategy.
Main Duties:
- Leading the development and delivery of the company’s Recycling & Waste Treatment growth strategy
- Identifying, assessing and securing new business and project development opportunities
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients
- Negotiating commercially viable agreements and implementing new services
- Working closely with operational teams, bidding teams and internal stakeholders to deliver growth projects
- Supporting strategic acquisition opportunities and contract development activities
- Managing and developing the Regional Development Team
- Providing strategic market intelligence and identifying future procurement opportunities
- Representing the company at industry events, conferences and stakeholder meetings
- Preparing and presenting business cases and development proposals to senior leadership teams
Candidate Requirements:
- Significant senior management experience within the waste management sector
- Proven experience delivering successful business development and growth programmes
- Strong commercial awareness and contract negotiation skills
- Experience managing complex contracts, projects or operational networks
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities
- Experience working with Local Authorities and other key industry stakeholders
- Highly numerate and IT literate with excellent analytical skills
- Relevant management, engineering or related professional qualifications
- Excellent communication, presentation and influencing skills
