Estimating Engineer

£45,000–£55,000 DOE + Package
WasteRecruit is supporting CSO Group, a specialist environmental engineering and technology business, with the recruitment of an Estimating Engineer to join the technical and commercial team.
This is considerably broader than a conventional estimating role.
You will become involved at an early stage of customer enquiries, working with clients and internal engineering specialists to understand the application, establish exactly what is required and help develop an appropriate technical solution.
From there, you will prepare the project estimate and translate the proposed engineering solution into a clear, technically compliant and commercially competitive proposal.
The company supplies specialist technologies and engineering solutions into the wastewater, energy from waste, municipal waste and industrial sectors, making this an excellent opportunity for somebody who enjoys combining engineering knowledge with commercial and customer-facing responsibilities.
The role
You will receive and interpret customer enquiries, specifications and technical requirements and work alongside colleagues to develop the most appropriate solution.
You will prepare project estimates and detailed technical and commercial proposals, attend client meetings either face-to-face or virtually and respond to subsequent technical queries and requests for information.
As opportunities progress, you will provide technical sales support and help move projects towards order, working closely with both the sales and engineering teams to ensure the client's requirements are properly understood and delivered.
The role also provides occasional opportunities to attend conferences and industry events, develop relationships with partners and remain up to date with market, regulatory and commercial developments affecting the sectors in which the business operates.
About you
We are looking for somebody who combines credible engineering knowledge with strong written communication and the confidence to engage directly with customers.
You should ideally hold at least an HNC within a MEICA discipline, process engineering, chemical engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
Previous experience within Energy from Waste, anaerobic digestion or odour control would be particularly useful, although candidates from wastewater, water treatment, process engineering or other related industrial engineering environments should also be considered.
You will need to be able to read and interpret technical drawings, produce good-quality written documentation and communicate effectively at both a technical and commercial level.
The successful candidate will be proactive and comfortable working within a small team where responsibilities are broader than they might be within a large corporate engineering environment.
Candidates may currently be working as an Estimating Engineer, Proposals Engineer, Applications Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer, Project Engineer or Technical Estimator.
What's on offer
The position is hybrid, although regular attendance at the company's office close to Edenbridge in Kent will be required.
